Even if you cannot take cases, you can still help!
We encourage all lawyers to make their contribution for LAWM via the centralized Access to Justice Fund.
LAWM participates in the Access to Justice Campaign, partnership of the State Bar of Michigan, Michigan State Bar Foundation and Michigan's legal aid programs.
Centralized fundraising promotes broader support for legal services to the poor by the Community at large (potential funding sources always first inquire as to what lawyers do to support legal services.)
It also allows the support from attorneys and firms to be quantified, both in West Michigan and and statewide, hopefully encouraging more firms and attorneys to add their support.
The Michigan Sate Bar Foundation administers the ATJ Fund and distributes 100% of the gifts designated for LAWM's operations directly to LAWM.
· Many of the area’s FIRMS annually make a blanket contribution on behalf of all of their members.
· This is also a good way for JUDGES to lend their support.
· The money donated by firms and individuals accounts for a significant part of LAWM’s annual budget. In fact, donations from the private bar completely fund the operation of the Pro Bono Program which generates hundreds of thousands of dollars in volunteer legal services from the private bar each year.
· Because both LAWM and the MSBF are 501(c)(3) organizations, your financial contributions are eligible for the federal income tax deduction. Donations to the ATJ Fund for the LAWM's Endowment are eligible for the Michigan income tax credit..· In addition, LAWM's Pro Bono Program is designated by the SBM as eligible to receive contributions under the Voluntary Pro Bono Standard
