This is a CALL center and, while
some calls are answered immediately, you should expect to spend some
time on "hold". Wait times to speak with a lawyer average 10 minutes
but may be longer at busier times. Busiest times are on Mondays and in
the first hour of the day. If your problem is not an emergency, you
may want to call at the less busy times.
New Case Intake Procedure:
- If you think you have an emergency--such as a court date or deadline for filing paperwork, please tell the person answering the phone.
- In most cases, the lawyer will not make a decision about accepting the case until he/she has discussed it with the rest of the staff. He/She will notify you of the decision as soon as possible.
- If we cannot represent you, we will try to recommend other ways of dealing with the situation.
- Because our offices do not have enough lawyers to represent everyone who may need help, we have to make decisions on which cases are most important. In any given case, we will consider whether the person will suffer serious harm if we don't represent them; what, if anything, we can do to help them; whether the service they want could be rendered by a private attorney for a low fee and whether acceptance of the case will have an impact on the low-income community as a whole.
