Grand Rapids Attorney Donald "Pete" Garthe is 2012 Barnes award honoree
On October 25, 2012, Legal Aid of Western Michigan presented the annual Mike Barnes award to attorney Pete Garthe at the reception at the B.O.B. in downtown Grand Rapids. The award recognized his many hours of pro bono work for the low income clients of Legal Aid.
Michigan Immigrant Rights Center Announces Coalition to Provide DREAM Act Assistance
The Michigan Immigration Rights Center announced that it is working with the Michigan Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights to provide consultation and assistance to young persons who may be eligible for deferment under the Act. Susan Reed, director of MIRC, said today.

ACLU hosting "School to Prison Pipeline" in Kalamazoo
The ACLU of Michigan’s Southwest Branch will host a public forum on September 28th at the Douglass Community Center at 1000 West Paterson Street, Kalamazoo, MI, from 7:00pm-8:30pm on the school-to-prison pipeline’s impact on students in Kalamazoo. Students and parents of students are encouraged to attend as the topic of conversation will center on students’ rights and responsibilities pertaining to suspensions and expulsions.
